Co-Learning Event Report: Advancing SDG Interactions and Policy Interventions

By Charlotte Stam, Knowledge Brokering and Synthesis Team

The report of the Co-Learning Event "SDG Interactions and Policy Interventions in Developing Countries" held on November 13, 2024, at the Babylon Hotel in The Hague, is out now. The event was organised by the Knowledge Brokering and Synthesis (KBS) team and marked a key moment in the SDG Interactions Research Programme funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

The event convened stakeholders from research, policy, and practice to exchange insights and foster dialogue on the challenges and opportunities of achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) in a rapidly changing global context.

Key Highlights:

  • Thought-Provoking Keynotes: Charles Abugre (IDEAs, Ghana) reflected on Africa's progress from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the SDGs, highlighting structural challenges like debt and limited access to finance. Naomi Hossain (SOAS, University of London) underscored the critical role of SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), emphasising how growth at all costs undermines development and exacerbates inequality and conflict.

  • Cross-Cutting Takeaways: The event emphasised the importance of aligning policy coherence with inclusive development. Insights highlighted the need for systems approaches, flexible policies, and locally driven solutions to balance economic, social, and ecological goals and truly target the most marginalised.

The event report encapsulates the discussions and more elaborate insights that were generated during the event. The full report is now available for download.
